Hi! I’m Danielle – a cook, photographer, writer and mom to three gorgeous and somewhat crazy kids. For as long as I can remember I’ve had a passion for good food, passed down to me by my father and now passed on to my own children. Being a mom is awesome – I remember how I couldn’t wait until they were born, dreaming of all the treats and yummy meals I would make for them….of course the best laid plans often have a way of going sideways. Our eldest son has an anaphylactic peanut and nut allergy, and GG was born with an off the chart dairy and soy protein allergy that is another story all together. And as they grew they made friends, BFF’s in fact, both of whom are gluten-free due to intolerance. And so I’ve learned to adapt, to take my recipes and make them…well, edible, even by the most allergy prone standards.
To be clear, not all of the recipes you’ll find here will be allergen free; I have a love of butter and eggs that is on the slightly obscene side, but I’ve also worked hard to make sure that the people I love get to enjoy most of the foods I love as well, the rest are just some of my favourites and new creations that I dream up along the way.
We all need to connect with food on the most basic, primal level, and in this fast-paced modern world that we live in, that connection is being lost. My goal is to bridge that gap, to provide real food everyday that is both nutritious and delicious, and to engage people in the processes that go into the foods we eat.
When I’m not in the kitchen, I’m usually found either taking photos, writing, or planning my next adventure with my amazing husband and our super crazy clan. So far we’ve covered the world from the Orkney Islands to Vancouver Island and all stops in between. Next stops 2014: London, Edinburgh, Ireland, France and the Netherlands.
